Orbits are everywhere: in the universe, behind your eyes. Moons orbit around planets, planets orbit around stars, stars orbit around black holes at the centre of their galaxies, galaxies orbit around larger clusters of gravity… Every orbit implies some influence among bodies that are close enough to exert it and to feel it, but because of that same influence bodies move and change their position all the time. In Unstable Orbits we find interactions between two processes that are themselves unstable and fragile: impossible and inexistent schemes inspired by theoretical physics and complex systems, and a few lines of poetry.

Der poetische Bildessay Ich wollte auf Irgendetwas warten. basiert auf Mosimanns Film I Have Not Been Afraid of Going Blind for a Long Time (2022). Yannick Mosimann (1989) lebt und arbeitet in Bern. Er ist Filmemacher, Klangkünstler und Fotograf. Sein Werk umfasst mehrere Filme und Videoinstallationen, sowie kollaborative Arbeiten mit einer Vielzahl von Künstlerinnen und Künstlern. Seine Arbeit konzentriert sich auf intuitive Prozesse und sensorische Erfahrungen. Er beschäftigt sich mit Themen wie dem Anthropozän, der Natur und der menschlichen Wahrnehmung. White Suburbia ist eine Spurensuche in und um Kapstadt. Wir sitzen in einer Villa am Osthang des Tafelbergs, probieren Napoleons Dessertwein, analysieren Songtexte einer Indie-Band, treffen einen calvinistischen Bäckermeister – und starren auf ein paar Fotos aus dem Familienalbum. Im Essay deuten sich vier Erzählungen an. Sie folgen im Anschluss unter dem Titel Tempura.
Tempura, das sind frittierte Häppchen. Ehemals aß man in den vierzig Tagen vor Ostern ‚Tempora‘, also die Zeit selbst. In Japan wurde das Gericht derart verfeinert, dass Roland Barthes schrieb, es habe «zur Hülle allein die Zeit, die ihr Festigkeit verleiht». Die Farbe der Speisen wird vom Teigmantel kaum verdeckt. Wir folgen in diesen Erzählungen Personen durch die Begegnungszonen der Zeitgeschichte. Was in ihnen verborgen ist, lässt sich jederzeit erahnen. Und die Orte, an denen sie sich aufhalten, sind von einer so dünnen Zeitschicht überzogen, dass Wiederholung und Differenz sichtbar werden.
Andi Schoon (*1974) ist Kulturwissenschaftler, Autor und Co-Leiter des Y Instituts an der Hochschule der Künste Bern.
